Here is King Tut’s immediate family, who all happen to be related. Incest was very common in Egypt as a way to preserve the royal bloodline. Here, we see Amenhotep III (top left) with his wife (of unknown origin), Queen Tiye. The skeleton on the bottom left is their son and future pharaoh, Amenhotep IV (later Akhenaten), who initiated a series of radical religious reforms in the nation. The bottom right mummy is the Unknown Female of KV35. For a number of years, it was speculated that the mummy was that of Nefertiti, Akhenaten’s first and most powerful wife. Recently, she was claimed to be that of a lesser wife, Kiya, who gave birth to the boy king Tutankhamun. However, DNA analysis has concluded that the woman in KV35 is indeed Tut’s mother, as well as the immediate sister of Akhenaten.
